The R&B Avril Lavigne of The Schuylkill Stream… Rego

Indie R&B? Gothic Anti-Pop? Operatic Indie Trap? Idk…

Feel free to take your own stab at defining Rego’s music. Just be sure to recognize the multitude of influences, the originality, creativity, and passion she brings to it.

Moreover, the goal of this article or any City Root piece on a talented local artist isn’t to define, but to celebrate a phenomenal talent that deserves more recognition, and do our part to send a little more attention in their direction.

So it’s time for you to get to know this talented artist

RegoThereSheGo, More simply Known as REGO

AKA The R&B Anti-Pop-Hop Avril Lavigne Indie Queen of the Schuylkill Stream

I keep adding words to it. So much fun.

In case you didn’t know, she put out one hell of an album and continues to impress in each music video. Check out “Beg for It,” a video in which Nike paid her no less than two million dollars to sport their garb. Truth.

Interlude offers both stank face head nods and ostentatious grooves for both the body and the ear. The project is an impressive effort in the holy trinity of vibes, words, and sounds.

This result came to the surprise of absolutely no one that was previously familiar with Rego’s work before the drop.

And the numbers don’t lie.

Folks are taking notice for a lot of reasons, and not just here in Philly. One of those reasons is that Rego’s got some shit to say. Catch a live show and you’ll know. Another is that she’s created a one-of-a-kind sound that’s furthered by a strong and unique voice.

“Pray for You” was her breakout hit and still deserves radio play to this day.

I’d say “Beg for It” followed by “Intentions” are probably the closest in terms of mainstream radio ability after that. Deep enough to feel but fun enough to bounce to.

She’s got plenty of “smoke a joint in a dimly lit room and let the music take over” type songs. The key to making those songs good is simply not making them boring, ya know? It’s a balancing act.

And Rego is very very far from boring.

“Pour It” is a versatile and intense song that works in an intense, neon dance scene as well as it does in the gym or on a blunt ride. It’s dramatic and dangerous, the kind of song that can grip a focused a mind.

“Cinematic” and “Dejanew” are probably my two favorites after those previously mentioned. Absolutely love the chorus on Dejanew.

Anyway, what’s important is that you play this album and get it on your playlists. Enjoy the wonderful and passionate music driven by both sultry and intense melodies. in some songs she’s singing in others it sounds like she’s crying in key.

Rego is special so be sure to check her out wherever you get your music fix.
