Michael Berg — “Desire” EP: A Dylan Disciple Making His Own Lane

Michael Berg does the very impressive thing of being a white guy with an acoustic guitar, who idolizes Bob Dylan, but actually makes music that isn’t boring. It’s a rare feat that only one in a baker’s dozen of Dylan Disciples is able to pull off. My fedora with a feather is off for Berg’s sophomore release, Desire.

Blessed with a unique, ear-perking voice and a knack for simple melodic grooves, Berg strings together five feel-good tunes that you could enjoy as much on the beach as you could folding clothes, or laying in bed with a woman, a man, a demon, whatever your preference.

It’s clear he’s going for sing-along rather than lyrical miracles, telling vague but relatable stories. The first song “Nothing’s Right” is a standout and is already on my beach playlist for next summer and I’m writing this in October.
