Sophie Coran Takes Us to Another Planet on her album “Space”

Sophie Coran, named by NPR Music as one of “10 Artists You Should Know” in Philadelphia, produces music with rich blends of jazz, R&B, and soul. Her cinematic style and inspirations range from Amy Winehouse, Corine Bailey Rae, and Lana Del Rey and the result is a timeless collection of tunes.

She performs Wednesday, 7/13 at City Winery (opening the show is CJ Mills, another standout). If you can go, you should! Quite the combo here.

S P A C E

Her debut album S P A C E dropped last April, and it’s aptly named because it’s pretty out of this world. The album starts with a strong intro track, followed by the soul-stirring “Roadblock,” which I’ve had on repeat since I first heard it. And believe me, you’ll be hooked when you hear the dreamy piano during the chorus of “Delilah’s,” the third track on the album.

The album’s title track, “S P A C E,” deserves to be looped. The song combines Coran’s deliciously fluent vocals with moody strings and killer lyrics like, “Tried to hide above the clouds, but cosmic matter spit me out.”

Give S P A C E a listen and follow Sophie on Instagram @sophiecoran to see what she has planned for the future.
