Cvgebird Takes Flight in Award-Winning Music Video, “Frida Trap”

Wild and special.

Art & Life, Music & Madness is our mantra here and that just so happens to be a good way to entail what’s involved in Cvgebird’s “Frida Trap” music video.

I suppose you could stash the song under the indie-trap genre, but I feel labeling it anything besides epic original art feels diminishing. The catchy, chanting bars over minimalist EDM build production reminiscent of early M.I.A. It’s song and cinema in 7 minutes, and it kicks off with poetry. Impressive stuff start to finish.

A ‘wardrobe change’ commences about halfway through, the most literal of the reminders throughout this piece to free ourselves of the bullshit, act truthfully, and unleash the creative spirit.

Clearly it’s no surprise the video has been nominated in the ‘Los Especiales’ category in this year’s Philadelphia Latino Film Festival that’s taking place from May 29th to June 5th in different spots throughout the city. Festival schedule here.

The poetry certainly appears to be related to Cvgebird’s stage name, possibly giving background on the choice, or at least of this artist’s journey. To further the metaphor, this video could be considered their Cage Release Party. Wings are spread. Cvgebird and their incredible team really got busy here. The end credits list is longer than an elephant’s schlong. Speaking of safari animals, this song would fit right in on The Black Panther album.

Pure talent.

And sometimes when it feels like a flex… well, bitch, it might be.

Live Skills Off the Dome

Given a few words from the audience and a simple riff, Cvgebird puts together a performance that might remind you of your mother’s home cookin’ in a matter of moments. As you might expect from a freestyle song off the dome, it’s a bit repetitive but natural and comfortable.

Shout out Sofar for creating magical moments per usual.
