Songs That Should Be On The Radio By Philly Artists (Vol. 3)

Volume 3 is here!! Who’s missing?! Let us know on the graaammm @thecityroot

Al Zamora

“One Rule”

Tell me this doesn’t sound like an Ed Sheeran song? One minute in and you’re already humming along. Hit.

MAX SWAN — “Change Your mInd’”

Not your typical radio song, but Max doesn’t make typical music. Enjoy.

Wild Mothers

“Are You Down with the Funk”

Awesome band name. Awesome title. Awesome tune. ARE YOU?? CUZ I AM.

Rae.Dianz & BlckTeeth

“touch”

Funky dance jam and one of my personal favorite collaborations between the shining, multi-verse rapper/singer/songwriter/painter/musician that is Rae.Dianz and the exceptional vibe curator production duo of BlckTeeth. Song goes hard on the dancefloor.

Brianna Castro

“Do it Again”

It was tough to pick between this song and “U N Me” — another standout track from the singer-songwriter who’s made a name for herself beyond the city and landing a major feature in Tory Lanez.

Seth Witcher — “i hate love songs!”

Seth is riding on the wave of popular emo punk pop of today’s music scene and it wouldn’t surprise me one bit if one of his songs caught on and blew the fuck up. Whether it’s a Q102 placement or a Tiktok trend, I think he separates himself from the pack of artists that make this type of music because I actually believe what he’s saying. There’s something about pop punk that always comes off as whiny to me, but that’s not what I hear in Seth’s music. Whereas most of that scene, although they’re catering to an audience a decade my junior, tends to come off phony to me.

Sanovia — “I really love you”

Worship R&B with a killer band and powerful vocals, but the pop feel is still real.

Stereo League — “Operator, Please”

Stereo League is one of those bands that doesn’t really make bad music. Everybody has a song or two that just turns out ‘bleh’ but it makes sense on the album or they want to put out something new, but I rarely have any problem digesting Stereo League—new, old, originals, covers, collabs. Always solid.

SUNNIE — “TAKE ME HIGH”

The beat reminds me of something… Juice Wrld? I think it’s an obvious sample and I’m dumb or just an excellent beat. Beyond the beat, it’s rare that I put ride along, wavy vibes on a hit playlist but this one just… ooohh.

You feel it.

The harmonies on top of the beat as it gets further into the song feels like it continues to wrap you up with more layers. The lyric video is a treat and Sunnie continues honing a craft and proving she’s onto something here.

Emily Drinker

“Enough is Enough”

Ms. Drinker has a true knack for writing catchy melodies. Extra important in the folk genre. Track after track, Emily’s music is strong and confident. She looks and sounds incredibly comfortable in front of a microphone to the point she’s able to express herself to the full extent. Now, I have no idea if that’s how Emily feels, but that’s how it comes across to me and it’s a thing of beauty. If “Enough is Enough” doesn’t get your foot tapping you must not have any rhythm at all!

Zavetis

“That Feelin”

A fun and thoughtful forray into pop rock with a blues guitar from one of Philly’s favorite axemen, Nate Zavetis. He makes the guitar sing throughout, mixing it with dreamy, harmonized vocals that come and go. It feels like the happier version of his song, “Don’t Be Afraid” which is also a good one and my personal favorite of Nate’s.

Dell-P (feat. Wil Guice)

“Here for It”

Old school hip-hop. Bars and a beat to bump to. You don’t hear too many songs like this these days. Glad to have it in the rotation.

AJAY — “These Yesterdays” & Pull On Me (w/ Nic Hanson)

This is one of those songs I’ve had on The City Root spotify playlist forever and just keep forgetting to promote. Such a good tune by two superb artists that just make sense on a track together.
