“The Boombox” is Bringing New Soul to Rock n’ Roll — July 27th @ Silk City

After the rock n’ roll Gold rush

Curator of The Boombox, Nate Zavetis

There was a time you could find rock n’ roll influence just about anywhere. From the 60s into the early 90s, the genre and its experimental subcultures ruled the mainstream airwaves, the underground clubs, and the style of the streets. Today, rock still has its place. The alt indie scene in Philly is littered with talent, but the overarching musical landscape is a departure from the days where Guns N’ Roses, Nirvana, Metallica, Aerosmith, AC/DC, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin and so many more were at the forefront of music. Let’s just say the rockstars of yesterday and the rockstars of today (Uzi) are quite different.

Time flies, music and culture evolve, rockers get old, there’s nothing wrong with that. But the soul of a good rock n’ roll show has never left. Even the pop acts best live performances become stadium rock shows. From Taylor Swift to Harry Styles, they step their production up from a studio-enhanced pop tune to a stadium anthem.

But traditional rock n roll that so many of us grew up on, continues to drift further the music scene and with all that being considered, The Boombox was born. It’s goal — to bring a new soul to rock n roll, weaving it’s influence through genres, and give it a home in Philadelphia.

Features of the first act:

Nate Zavetis

Curator & Host

Nate Zavetis has established himself in Philly primarily as a professional guitarist, working with a variety of acts and functioning as a founding member of The Funkitorium. A multi-instrumentalist, singer/songwriter, Zavetis as he’s known on streaming services has made a name for himself as, not only a producer of music, but as a producer of shows as well, specifically as host and curator of the neo soul, tiny desk esque session, “Mixed Bag” and is channeling a more hard core leadership role for The Boom Box. You won’t find Nate doing much else outside of the music world; he keeps to himself, the gym, and his cat. These days he is training for The Boom Box like a method actor, immersing himself with 90s and 2000s hard rock nostalgia, preparing to resurrect rock n roll from the rubble of a genreless wasteland.

Boogieman Dela

is as complex an artist as the name suggests. This Philly native grew up in a large musically inclined family with three sisters and a brother, all with an aptitude for singing and various instruments. In Boog’s elementary years he studied the drums and the trumpet which began building the foundation of his musical genius.

Sunnie

She has the intangibles — the looks and swagger to capture any audience, and the vocal palette and flow to break hearts and sew them back together.

Her debut album, Bloom, was well received in the modern R&B circuit and she continues to expand her audience and musical circuit by playing around Philly and traveling to connect with more music fans.

DJ NDOT

A staple in the Philly music scene, DJ NDot has been affectionately dubbed Yoda by his circle for his versatility and wisdom. He is what you call a “studio rat” no matter what the discipline is — whether its DJ’ing, songwriting, emceeing or producing. Dot is also huge on the movement for artists rights and education, involving himself wherever he can to foster growth, especially in the Greater Philadelphia Area.

The Venue — Silk City

Intimate enough for it to be personal, large enough for a party, special enough for the first installment of The Boombox…
