1A. Indie Singer-Songwriter Julia Pratt Is An Artist On The Rise

Julia Pratt is a woman on the rise. She’s a talented performer who’s music has reached ears from all over, especially her song “A Little Love” with Mt. Joy.

And the only thing better than the numbers for this burgeoning local artist is the music itself.

The tone is strong through what could be described as a minimalist approach. Her lyrics are deep and powerful. Each word holds weight and there’s no drop from the album to the live performance. It might even be better. She hits the pitch above and can deliver a natural rasp on the lower end that we love so much from female singers for whatever scientific reason.

She has a distinct look that draws the eye — Is she a white girl with braids? I don’t know. Does she pull them off? I think so.

Ms. Pratt is getting bigger and bigger spots. After going on tour with Vancouver Sleep Clinic in 2023, she did a leg with Amos Lee and just performed at Green River Festival which was headlined by CAKE (fuckin’ love Cake) and Fleet Foxes. XPN and Rec Philly have both featured her and she headlined her first show in May.

Relatable stories like that of “Chronos, Cruel Handler” alongside beautiful visuals make for engaging content and draw the audience in deeper. Both “Michael” and “Chronos, Cruel Handler” are somber, hopeful ballads that stir the soul. The video theme of soft girl isolated in nature continues with “Carolina,” a theme for the EP, and overall it feels like a story that would connect with any young girl lost in the algorithms of the internet. It’s connecting with this young man in the same way. “Bull In A China Shop” is my favorite of this collection.

The Family Feud short film below is spectacular.
