The Silk Tent Piece of the Week:

The Hand of Fatimah or “Hamsa”

The Hand of Fatimah or “Hamsa” is an ancient Talisman that symbolizes protection. Originating from the Hebrew word “Hamesh,” literally meaning five. The hand is worn as a defense against negative energy or the evil eye. This palm shape amulet is popular throughout the Middle East and North Africa and is worn as jewelry or in wall hangings. Early use of this symbol is traced back to the ancient Mesopotamia, predating Judaism Christianity and Islam.
